History of the brand. Tesla Motors is an American electric car producer and was founded in 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning. The company received most of its funding from the PayPal founder, Elon Musk, by injecting more than $30 million for Tesla’s research and development. However, in 2007, Tesla experienced bad sales that were not capable of supporting the business where Eberhard and Tarpenning had to leave the company in 2008, which caused Musk to become the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) (Schreiber). Furthermore, Tesla launched its first product called the Roadster in 2008 using an ion-lithium battery, which the firm had sold for more than 2,400 Roadsters throughout the world (â€Å"About Tesla†). In 2012, Tesla Motors introduced the world’s first prestige electric sedan named Model S. The car had a fully electric engine and built with a four-door style vehicle. Tesla’s engineers made the automobile have a driving range of 265 miles and an acceleration of a sports car: 0 to 60 mph in approximately five seconds; Model S earned the Motor Trend’s 2013 Car of the Year.
